So I participated in the Palatka Art Explosion, and the theme was "Visions of Putnam County". So I decided to do my research. I was going to draw a bass....because it is the bass fishing capital of the world, but I figured a lot of other artists thought the same thing. SO....a researching I went. I found out that Naturalist William Bartram did a lot of study in Putnam county and had a meeting with the Long Warrior, Mico Chlucco, of the Seminole tribe. I was so intrigued that I went out and bought the book "Travels" by William Bartram....great read. But I decided I would do a portrait of the Long Warrior.
I also visited the you tube video by Sam Carr, below, that shows the paddle trail on the Saint Johns River of the Bartram Trail.

So as I was chalking. I hear someone say "The LONG Warrior!!" and I turn around and its Sam Carr! From the video! He was so nice and we were thrilled that we shared a common interest in Mico Chlucco. We spoke for a bit and he said to me "How long will you be here today?" And I told him I would be there until at least 5:00 pm. He stated that he would return.
A couple hours later, Sam returned with a T-Shirt, from Putnam County, I was thrilled that it had The Long Warrior on the back!
So thrilled that I chose this subject and learned SO much about Natural History! And that I got to meet Sam and see the time and dedication that is being spent to bring William Bartrams travels back to life.
Not just a chalk festival!
